I've lived in New York for almost eight years and have hosted many guests from out of town, from friends to family members. New York apartments are not like apartments in other cities, which can lead to some awkward (and well-meaning but offensive) moments I documented below.
Hosting guests in NYC means managing their unrealistic expectations for the city and your humble apartment.
These are based on real interactions I've experienced, and some things I probably said back when I didn't live here yet and was staying at my friends' apartments.
