Reconnecting with my inner child through cartoons

Updated: Dec 22, 2021

When I started drawing regularly at 27, it felt nostalgic and familiar. That's because I used to draw and create all the time as a kid. I lost some of that growing up, and it was fulfilling to reconnect with young Danielle.

I attended a writers retreat with Mari Andrew in October 2021, and we did a meditation to think about our child and teen selves. How perfect, since the only reason I was at the retreat was because I had connected to my inner child and started making silly cartoons.

It made me think of the ways I haven't changed since I was a kid. I'm not sure if that's a good thing or a bad thing, although I do think I've evolved. Like, I upgraded from store brand notebooks to Moleskine. The retreat inspired the doodle below.
